    From sound to score

    How it works

    1. 01

      Hear the notes.

A piano transcription model (Transkun) listens to the recording and writes down every key press, with timing and loudness.

    2. 02

      Find the beat.

A beat-tracking model plus the notes themselves place the beats and barlines, even when the tempo moves.

    3. 03

      Write the score.

Our engraver picks the time signature and key, splits the hands, keeps held notes in their own voice and rounds rhythms to readable values.

    4. 04

      You check it.

Look at any 30 seconds and listen to them. If the barlines are off, change the time signature or move them — it re-writes in a second, without re-listening.

    Questions

Does it work on songs with vocals?

Not yet. It is built for solo piano. With singing, drums or guitar the model gets confused and the sheet will be poor. If you have a piano cover of the song, use that.

    How accurate is it?

The notes are usually right: in our tests the piano model found 99–100% of the notes in synthesized piano recordings and 106 of 107 notes in a studio recording of Bach. Rhythm notation is harder. When the playing is free in tempo, barlines can land in the wrong place; the time-signature and barline buttons fix most of these in one or two clicks.

    Can I edit the result?

Yes. Download the MusicXML file and open it in MuseScore (free), Sibelius, Finale or Dorico to change anything.

    What happens to my recording?

It is processed on our server and deleted as soon as the notes are written out. The sheet music is kept for 7 days so you can come back, then deleted. Nothing is published or used to train models. See the privacy policy.

    Can I transcribe copyrighted music?

Only if you have the right to: your own playing, music in the public domain, or with permission. You confirm this before each upload. See the terms.
